So I got the plans online and mailed them to my dad. He's been at it for a few months now, off and on, and here's how it sits now.

How about a Storm Trooper paint job? Or some kind of design from Halo?

Probably just end up bed lining it like the truck. Maybe adding an exo cage later.

Think more Road warrior style. It needs to be protected while being towed to remote camp sites.

Too cool!
How much were the plans?
Hmmm, how would it be building one out of aluminum for weight savings?

They are already crazy light. Thats why they are so popular right now. You normally sheet them with aluminum though.

I'm using the plans from here. http://www.kuffelcreek.com/teardrops.htm
The cubby model. But you can find write ups and other plans by just using google. Tons of stuff out there.

As my dad is technology impaired and in the middle of nowhere I have to wait for him to send pictures by snail mail. I hear it's going well though.
