So contrary to the recommendations from other members here, I went ahead and bought an H4 HID conversion kit for my Tacoma, off ebay. I thought I might have found a decent one, selling out of the US (as many of the big complaints came from out of country sellers). The product was Xentec, sold by seller Choi-q

I made my purchase in February of 2010, the kit was shipped timely, and received quickly, was a breeze to install, and I was happy with the initial quality and look of the kit.

In March of 2010, I started experiencing a strange problem, where randomly the lights would switch to highbeams, and stick there. Also one of the lights had a light flicker to it. I contacted the seller as the kit advertised a 2 year warranty, and tried to start an RMA. They require that I send back the defective part in order to receive a new one. I didn't want to do this, as I didn't have standard headlights to put back into the truck, and as it's daily driven I couldn't have my truck out of comission to get me back an forth from work and such.

This is where I started to feel the burn. The seller would not work with me at all, even when I offered to pay the price of a new kit up front, that he could refund upon receiving my defective kit, minus any fees involved for him having to run an extra transaction. Which they just couldn't do because it was the company's policy.

Eventually the problem became very intermittent, and I found I could temporarily fix it by disconnecting the battery for a short time, so I decided to just deal with it for awhile.

In late April 2010, the kit stopped working all together, it just wouldn't turn on. I have no idea what the problem was, but fortunately at this time I had an extra vehicle, so having the truck out of comission for a short time is no problem.

On May 4th I followed the sellers instructions to return the kit in order to get a new one sent, which included shipping the kit back to him, with all my information included in the package, including return address, transaction id # etc etc. and then e-mailed the seller the tracking number for the return. I received a prompt e-mail the same day, saying the seller would inform me as soon as the tracking number showed delivered.

On May 14th, I still had not heard back from the seller, so I checked the number myself, and found the return had been delivered on May 6th. Again I contact the seller, and get a response on the 17th (14th was a Friday) appologizing, because he had too much work and this wasn't his only account, and asking me what size bulb I needed, I respond the same day I need H4, then he asked if I had 2 bulbs and what color they were, I said yes I needed both and they were 6k, on the 18th he then asks me again for my address (keep in mind I've been using the same thread I used from the very first issue, where I contacted him from ebay, and so everything has been included in the thread already) on the 19th, (after asking) he sent me the tracking number for the RMA.

Now, last night on the 21st I receive 2 H4 HID bulbs. of course I have sent back the whole kit, so these bulbs do me no good. I immediately sent an email to inform the seller, but of course it's a Friday again, so I don't expect to hear back until Monday.

Also in the meantime, as I had been initially satisfied with the kit, I recommended it to a friend, and the one he received was defective. I'm following up with him on how his return went as well.

Anyways, just thought I'd share. I'm ok with things that are electronic breaking early, and being covered by warranty, as long as I am taken care of when I have a problem, but of course once again I am learning you pay for what you get. I'd just like as many others as possible to know so they don't have to deal with it as well.

I will update as this progresses.
